Microstrategy is looking for a full-time Lightning Network Engineer to help them build a SaaS platform.

According to a job posting published this week, Microstrategy, a mobile software, cloud-based services, and business intelligence (BI) firm, is looking for a full-time Lightning Network software engineer. If hired, the developer will create a Lightning Network-based software as a service (SaaS) platform for the company that can be used for e-commerce use cases as well as connect with enterprises looking for payment solutions. 

Microstrategy Looks to Hire a Lightning Network Software Developer

After the company purchased 301 bitcoin (BTC) to hold on its balance sheet, the BI firm Microstrategy published a job listing on the web portal smartrecruiters.com. Microstrategy’s job offer is for full-time employment as a Bitcoin Lightning Software Engineer, and the chosen individual will be in charge of creating a Lightning Network (LN) SaaS platform.

“As a Bitcoin Lightning Software Engineer at Microstrategy, you will build a Lightning Network-based SaaS platform, providing enterprises with innovative solutions to cyber-security challenges and enabling new e-commerce use-cases,” says Chen Wan, a Microstrategy executive.

According to the job description for Microstrategy’s engineering position, the selected candidate will create software solutions that leverage the Bitcoin (BTC) blockchain and Lightning Network, as well as “other decentralized finance (defi) technologies.” Contributing to the Bitcoin Core codebase and other open source cryptocurrency coding projects is also “a plus.”

A Bachelor’s degree in computer science or a related field is required, and a “Master’s degree or Ph.D. in computer science or engineering is a plus,” according to Wan’s job description. The job description also says that the candidate should have “strong knowledge” of data structures, algorithms, operating systems, distributed systems, and other basic computer science ideas.

The Lightning Network is a Bitcoin second layer (L2) scaling solution that was introduced in 2015. At the time of writing, the LN capacity is 4,905.29 BTC, which is worth $95.2 million in USD. According to September 30 statistics, there are currently 17,203 LN nodes and 84,928 payment channels. The total number of LN Tor Nodes is approximately 12,305, with 69.3% of the LN Tor capacity.
